My name is Mohamed Jama, but you can call me MJ. I am a community leader, passionate grassroots organizer, and relentless housing advocate—and today, I am thrilled to officially announce my candidacy to serve the people of MN District 60 as your next State Senator!

I’ve dedicated my life to empowering communities, building bridges, and ensuring that every voice is heard—and I promise to carry these values with me as I lead. This campaign is not just about me—it’s about us, about our shared vision, collective strength, and the belief in what we can achieve together.

From co-founding the Cedar Riverside Youth Council to serving on the boards of the West Bank Community Coalition and the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, I’ve seen firsthand how collective action and a united community can create meaningful change.

But it’s no secret that District 60 faces critical challenges. From the growing homelessness crisis to the devastating opioid epidemic to widespread healthcare insecurity, our community deserves a leader who has not only witnessed these struggles but has spent years fighting for solutions. I am that leader.

I will never forget the remarkable work Senator Kari Dziedzic has done for District 60. She was a true champion for our community, and her dedication left a lasting impact on all of us. I had the privilege of knowing her during my teens, and her leadership and service inspired me ever since. My deepest condolences go out to her family and to the entire district for the loss of our Senator.
